Asda has withdrawn some packs of its Chicken Chow Mein (300g) and Meal for One Chicken Chow Mein (400g) because the products contain traces of shellfish, which is not mentioned on the product labels. The products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to or intolerance of shellfish.
The Agency has issued an Allergy Alert advising anyone with an allergy to or intolerance of shellfish not to eat these meals.

Asda Meal for One Chicken Chow Mein, 400g
- Use by: 14 May 2010, 15 May 2010, 16 May 2010, 17 May 2010, 18 May 2010 and 19 May 2010
Asda has withdrawn the affected packs from sale. In addition, the company has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members of the withdrawal. Notices have been displayed in stores, explaining to customers why the packs have been withdrawn. Anyone who has bought an affected pack can return it to an Asda store for a full refund without their receipt.
No other Asda products are known to be affected.
Allergy alerts
Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk.
